Environmental Themes
The 'environment' is a broad term and many of our business and operational activities have the potential to affect it. To ensure that the breadth and range of potential impacts and actions are properly covered, we manage environmental issues thematically. This allows us to simplify the way issues are identified, managed and reported. Within each theme, there are both legislative drivers and management issues from which we derive specific policies, objectives, targets and actions.
The environmental themes include:
In addition to the above themes, ABP has added a section to our intranet called Environmental Awareness Activities. While not strictly a management theme, our goal to raise the environmental awareness of ABP employees is a key factor in our work and, we believe, is important to include as a stand-alone section of the website.

Environment Policy & Management of Themes
For each environmental theme, action is required at each business unit to ensure compliance with legislation and this gives rise to management issues which must be dealt with in a systematic way. We have used the legislation and management issues in the business units to guide the determination of the environmental policy for each theme but recognise that legal compliance is only the minimum requirement. We are actively examining each of the environmental themes to ensure that the management objectives at each business unit add value to the legal minimum and that this is reflected in our environment policy.
The policy objectives for each theme provide business unit managers with a clear understanding of what they are required to achieve for the resolution of any environmental issue. For further information on implementation of policy through our Environmental Management Framework, refer to the Environment Policy section of the website.
