Although ABP’s ports vary in size and scale, they each have the potential to affect the air, land or water in their vicinity, to a greater or lesser extent. This could be through a single large incident, such as an oil tanker spilling its load, or as a result of an ongoing activity where an effect gradually becomes apparent over a long period of time.
The Environmental Risk Register (ERR) is designed to be applicable across the Company so that our understanding of the risks involved in any given operation is consistent from Ayr to Plymouth, and from Swansea to Lowestoft. The full version will be available on the ABP Intranet for reference by all Company personnel in due course.
The ERR is one of the essential components of the overall Environmental Management Framework (EMF). It fits in with the ‘drivers’ that push us towards good environmental practice and will help to identify the actions that are required to achieve that good practice. When completed, it will give the Company a better understanding of the potential risks to the environment associated with our ongoing operations. It is also intended to be a tool for prioritising the risks, both within the ports and at corporate level, so helping to make the case for the resources that may be required to manage them satisfactorily. |
