Resource Management Performance

It is in the Company’s interests from both an environmental and financial perspective to review the use and management of energy resources, waste and water consumption.  In order to facilitate the more efficient use of resources, we have set targets in this area of environmental management.  The table below shows the commitments we have set and our progress:

2006 Target: Maintain like-for-like CO2 emissions at 2005 levels

Target exceeded by 10.8% Target for 2007 is to reduce or maintain like-for-like emissions at 2006 levels

2006 Target: Maintain like-for-like electricty consumption at 2005 levels.

Target exceeded by 1.4% Target for 2007 is to maintain like-for-like emissions at 2006 levels

2006 Target: Maintain like-for-like water consumption at 2005 levels.

Target exceeded by 26.1% Target for 2007 is to maintain like-for-like usage at 2006 levels
Resource Efficiency Groups to identify and implement 5 resource minimisation projects All ports have a REG group in place Progress to be reported quarterly  in 2007

Other initiatives

 

Port of Teignmouth – has replaced the quayside lights with low sodium more energy efficient, light bulbs. It is proposed that the same will be done in port workshops in due course

Port of Swansea – has undertaken a review of the use of impounding pumps within the dock system and significantly reduced electricity use through more efficient operation of the pumps
