Protecting the Environment wins Kudos for South Wales Ports

Estate Management

ABP owns a large amount of land throughout its 21 ports, much of which is close to areas of very high-conservation value, which are protected by EU designation under the Birds and Habitats Directives.  The Company also owns land which is designated as Site of Special Scientific Interest by English Nature under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

We believe there are considerable opportunities for improving our estates' management through mechanisms which discourage the dumping of waste and for cleaning up waste material which has been dumped.  All of our ports also have the potential to have more areas where landscaping and conservation management will improve both biodiversity and visual appearance.  Over the coming year we will be exploring opportunities to develop this.  For example, local Wildlife Trust officers are guiding estate managers at ABP Immingham and the benefits of this project will be used to guide other ABP ports in coming years.

To see the legislation that governs our management of our estate in the ports and how we have translated this into environment policy objectives, refer to the Estate Management page in the legislation section.
